Our Cadet Program
The Cranford First Aid Squad is proud of our cadets, eagerly dedicating their free time to serving the community and becoming leaders in the pre-hospital care setting.
Cadets join the Cranford First Aid Squad to give back to the community while assisting in emergency calls and learning valuable skills in the healthcare field. We prioritize cadet growth, offering thorough trainings and reserving at least one spot on each active crew for cadets. Cadets also compete in the annual Bayshore EMS Cadet/Youth Competition, to practice their BLS/NREMT skills, interact with cadets from other squads, and continue to explore the field of emergency care.
High school students of at least 16 years are eligible to ride with the squad. At minimum, cadets are expected to ride a weekly 4-hour shift on their assigned nights. They are also expected at minimum to attend an 8-hour shift every seven weeks on their assigned duty weekends. Cadets must be CPR and BLS certified and are expected to earn their EMT certification within one year of joining the squad. These certifications are not required before submitting an application but they are encouraged.
